Emporia, Kan. --- The 2015 outdoor season kicked off this weekend for the Minnesota State women's track and field team as they split the squad between two separate meets.
Traveling to Emporia, the Mavericks left with a third-place finish as a team at the ESU Spring Open. Sophomore
Brieanna Puckett would lead the team finishing fourth in the 100-meters with 12.37 and following that with a part of first-place crowns in both the 200-meters at 25.78 and the long jump at 18'11.75". Puckett's mark in the long jump serves as a provisional qualifier on the young season. Fellow sprinter
Sid'Reshia Floyd would also place in both the 100-meters and 200-meters in third and seventh, respectively.
Freshman
Erin Baker turned in a fourth-place finish of her own in her first career outdoor meet finishing the 5000-meters in 18:27.59. Junior
Brooke Foreman built off her strong finish in the indoor season with a fourth-place finish in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.82.
Taylor Glover also placed in her first attempt of the season finishing second in the 400-meter hurdles at 1:04.23.
The 4x400 relay team, consisting of
Mackenzie Beals, Glover,
Bonnie Pickford and
Taylor Naatz secured a third-place finish for the Mavericks with a final time of 4:06.84.
Anna Veroeven, fresh off her trip to the indoor national championships, led the Maverick charge in the field events finishing first in the triple jump with a final mark of 38'4".
Bryanna Sudman secured a provisional qualifying mark in her fourth-place finish in the pole vault at 11'11.75". Rounding out MSU's efforts in Kansas was
Brianna Ziolkowski finishing third in the high jump with a mark of 5'3".
In Des Moines, Iowa,
Emma Edelen started her outdoor campaign off strong with three placings to her name. She finished fifth in the shot put at 36'10.25". She followed that with a pair of third-place postings in the discus and hammer throw at 121'11" and 137', respectively.
