Mavericks and Falcons Skate to 2-2 Tie for Second Straight Night

Bowling Green, Ohio  ---   For the second consecutive night, Minnesota State and #14 Bowling Green battled to a 2-2 overtime tie in Western Collegiate Hockey Association action.

With tonight's result, Minnesota State extends its unbeaten streak to seven games.

After BGSU netminder Chris Nell took a slashing minor just 20 seconds into the start of the game, the Mavericks took advantage of an offensive zone face-off and senior defenseman Jon Jutzi's blast from the point found the back of the net for a power play marker at the :23 second mark.  The goal is Jutzi's third of the season and his fifth career power play goal.  A goal by BGSU forward Mark Cooper at 6:27 knotted things up and the two teams entered the locker room at the end of the period with the game tied 1-1.

The host Falcons took their first lead of the weekend at 8:53 of the second after Cooper got his second of the game on a play in which he took the puck off the back wall and beat freshman Jason Pawloski on the stick side.

The Mavericks tied it up at 7:34 of the third on a power play goal from sophomore forward Zeb Knutson. Knutson's rocket from the top of the circle is his fourth goal of the year and forced a scoreless overtime.

Minnesota State freshman netminder Jason Pawloski, who started his seventh consecutive game, stopped 31 shots and now stands 5-0-4 on the season with the tie.

The Mavericks converted on two of five power play chances on the night, while the Falcons were zero-for-four with the man advantage.

Minnesota State, which stands 8-6-4 overall and owns a 7-1-4 WCHA mark, continues WCHA action next weekend with a two-game home series versus Alabama-Huntsville.
