Hunter and Sandle Named NSIC Athletes of the Week

BURNSVILLE, Minn. --- Sophomore Myles Hunter (Conyers, Ga) was named NSIC Track Athlete of the Week and sophomore Michael Sandle (Eden Prairie, Minn.) was named NSIC Field Athlete of the Week for their success this weekend at the Chuck Petersen Open this past weekend.

For Hunter, this honor is just another piece to his already impressive resume this season as he was named U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Division II National Athlete of the Week on Monday. On Saturday, Hunter broke a ten year old school record at the Chuck Petersen Open setting the new mark at 7.76. In that effort, Hunter has already met the automatic qualifying standard. His mark is not only the best time in the NSIC, but also across all divisions nationally and is also the eighth fastest time in Division II history.

Sandle saw similar success this past weekend in the triple jump. His mark of 49'11.25" not only won the meet, but met the provisional qualifying standard for the NCAA Division II Indoor Championships. His performance also stands as the longest jump in Division II this season.

The Mavericks are currently on an extended break and will return to action on January 10 at the MSU Alumni Open.
