Mankato, Minn. --- The Minnesota State men’s hockey team is slated to play 18 home games in 2013-14 as the University formally announced its schedule today.
The schedule features ten home contests prior to the end of December and eight home games in the second half of the schedule.
Following an exhibition game vs. a to-be-determined opponent, MSU begins regular-season action with a nonconference road series at Providence (Oct. 11-12). Connecticut visits Verizon Wireless Center Oct. 18-19 in the first regular-season home contests and the Mavericks start Western Collegiate Hockey Association action Nov. 1-2 with road contests at Bemidji State. New WCHA member Bowling Green comes to Mankato Nov. 8-9 for the first league home contests of the year.
MSU plays at Minnesota Nov. 15-16 in a pair of nonconference games prior to a road trip to Bowling Green Nov. 22-23. Four home league games (vs. Alaska Anchorage - Nov. 29-30 and vs. Northern Michigan Dec. 6-7) and a road trip south to Alabama Huntsville (Dec. 13-14) serve as precursors to an exhibition tilt against the U.S. National Junior team Dec. 17.
The Mavericks start the New Year with four WCHA games in the Last Frontier with games at Alaska Jan. 3-4 followed by a pair of contests at Alaska Anchorage Jan. 10-11. Ferris State visits the Key City for games Jan. 17-18 before the inaugural Minnesota Tourney (official name to be determined) scheduled for Jan. 24-25 at Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul. The Mavericks face Minnesota Duluth in the first game before playing either St. Cloud State or Minnesota in the second game.
The final ten games of the schedule include games against Northern Michigan (Jan. 31-Feb. 1 in Marquette, Mich.), Bemidji State (Feb. 7-8 in Mankato), Alabama Huntsville (Feb. 14-15 in Mankato), Lake Superior State (Feb. 28-March 1 in Sault Ste. Marie, Mich.) and Michigan Tech (March 7-8 in Mankato).

In 2012-13 MSU established a school record for wins with a 24-14-3 overall mark and made its second appearance in the NCAA Division I postseason tournament.
