Hayes & Blueger Pick Up WCHA Honors

     Madison, Wis. --- Senior forward Eriah Hayes is this week’s Red Baron® WCHA Offensive Player of the Week and freshman forward Teddy Blueger has been hamed Red Baron® WCHA Rookie of the Week after helping power the #9th-rated Minnesota State men’s hockey team to a road sweep at Minnesota Duluth.

The , 6-4, 210-lb., Hayes struck for four goals and three assists for a seven-point weekend for the Mavericks in the two wins over the host Bulldogs.  The LaCrescent, Minn., native had a goal and two assists in Friday’s 4-2 victory, then contributed a career-high four points on three goals and an assist in Saturday’s 5-1 win over UMD. The hat trick was the second of his career and all three goals were scored on the power play. His 16 goals currently stand tied for sixth in the nation and his ten power play goals lead the nation. For the season, Hayes has 16-12--28 to rank second on the team in scoring.

Blueger, a 5-11, 165-lb., native of Riga Latvia, totalled 2-2--4 in the two wins at Minnesota Duluth. Both of his goals on the weekend were game-winning goals and the first GWGs of his career.  Blueger, who has 5-12--17 on the season, had a goal and two assists as the Mavericks rolled to a 4-2 over the Bulldogs Friday, then scored his fifth goal of the year in Saturday’s 5-1 win.

MSU is 18-9-3 on the year and hosts Michigan Tech this weekend in a pair of league games at Verizon Wireless Center Friday and Saturday.
