Harvey Martin is a senior right handed pitcher from Farmington, Minn., who attended and played for Central Michigan prior to transferring to Minnesota State. In 2012, his first season as a Maverick, he was named
Daktronics Honorable Mention All-America. The recently-named
2013 NSIC Preseason Pitcher of the Year compiled a 10-0 record with a 2.95 ERA in the 2012 campaign in helping lead the Mavericks to a third-place finish at the NCAA DII national tournament.

Matt Magers was asked about Martin, about his leadership on the team, as well as what made Martin stand out to him, responded, “Harvey is one of our seniors so he has been there before and we expect him to come out and perform the same as last year. He's is a leader on and off the field and I expect him to help the younger players since he knows what it takes to succeed.” As for what makes Martin stand out, Magers responded by saying “He has always had the unselfishness and willingness to do anything for the team. On the field, he throws strikes consistently, and he has always had a consistent mental approach to the game.”

1) What is your favorite baseball movie?
A: Perfect game
2) Do you have any pregame rituals?
A: Before each start I eat steak and eggs
3) What is your dream vacation spot?
A: My dream vacation spot is either Key West, Florida or Hawaii.
4) Who do you say your style of pitching mostly represents?
A: I wouldn't say our styles are completely similar, but I have always liked watching A.J. Burnett throw. I love his arm action and how he attacks hitters.
5) What was the toughest adjustment from Central Michigan to Minnesota State?
A: The toughest adjustment coming to Minnesota State was starting graduate school during the season. I've moved a lot in my life, so living in a new state wasn't a big shock to me.
6) What are your hobbies besides playing baseball?
A: My hobbies besides baseball mostly consist of hanging out with my boys and playing basketball. I'll mix in some reading every now and then.
7) How did you choose the major sport management?
A: Honestly, I chose Sport Management and Marketing as my major at Central Michigan, because most of the athletes took that major. When I had it as an option here at Minnesota State University I decided to take it, because I would like to open my own athletic facility where mostly strength training takes place for competitive athletes.
8) Besides pitcher what is your favorite position on the diamond?
A: My favorite position on the diamond besides pitching is shortstop. I played shortstop all through high school and even got recruited to CMU to play in the infield. Even though I'm strictly just a pitcher now, I still try to convince the coaches here that I can play infield if it's needed.
9) What is your favorite sport besides baseball?
A: Basketball.
10) What would you say your best pitch in your arsenal is?
A: My best pitch is my two-seam fastball. It has more movement than a four-seam fastball and I can throw mine just as hard.
