Minnesota State has announced that four student-athletes have signed letters of intent and will join the Maverick men's hockey program in 2013-14

Mavericks Get Four Commitments During Early Signing Period

          Mankato, Minn. --- Men’s hockey coach Mike Hastings has announced that four student-athletes have signed NCAA Letters of Intent to attend Minnesota State University.

Committing to MSU during the early signing period are defensemen Sean Flanagan (Kindersley, Sask./Salmon Arm (BCHL)) and Carter Foguth (Fenton, Mich./Muskegon (USHL)), along with goaltender Cole Huggins (Englewood, Colo./Coquitlam (BCHL)) and forward Mike Huntebrinker (Chesterfield, Mo./Waterloo (USHL)).  Biographies on the four signees are listed below.

“With a graduating class that we have exiting our program, we needed to address the positions that needed to be filled,” said Hastings, who is in his first season as head coach of the Mavericks. “This group is going to continue to build on the foundation that has been laid, ensuring that we move forward with our goal of getting to the next level. These four commitments will be expected to be a part of a program that continues to make strides in pursuit of excellence, both on and off the ice.”

Sean Flanagan, Defense, 6-1, 175, Kindersley, Sask./Salmon Arm (BCHL)
Is in his second season with Salmon Arm (BCHL) after suiting up for two years with Kindersley (SJHL)...Serving as an alternate captain for the Silverbacks this year and has totalled 3-5--8 in 20 games... Named Salmon Arm’s Best Defenseman for 2011-2012 (8-23--31 in 60 GP)......Selected for Canada West U19 team that played in the 2010 World Junior A Challenge Tournament held in Penticton, B.C. (team finished fourth and he had 0-0--0 in five games played).

Carter Foguth, Defense, 6-2, 210, Fenton, Mich./Muskegon (USHL)
Two-time team captain for Muskegon (Mich.) of the United States Hockey League, where he has played for the last three seasons... Has registered 1-1--2 in 14 games with Muskegon this year, recorded one goal and ten assists in 89 games in the two previous seasons with the Lumberjacks...Product of the Compuware AAA hockey program in Detroit.

Cole Huggins, Goaltender, 6-0, 180, Englewood Colo./Coquitlam (BCHL)
Three-year veteran of the British Columbia Hockey League is in second year with Coquitlam (he also played for Langley in 2010-11)...Currently ranks amongst the league-leading goaltenders in BCHL with 10-5-1 won-loss record, 2.25 goals against average and .938 save percentage...Named BCHL Player of the Week at beginning of September after posting an unblemished recorded at BCHL Showcase (74 saves in two games including all 40 in a 1-0 overtime win against Victoria where he was named 2nd Star and 34-save effort in 3-0 win over Cowichan Valley and was named 1st Star)... Played midget hockey for Colorado Thunderbirds AAA.

Mike Huntebrinker, Forward, 5-11, 187, Chesterfield, Mo./Waterloo (USHL)
In second season with Waterloo of the USHL...Has 3-4--7 in four games in 2012-13 after collecting 17-17--34 in 54 games in 2011-12 to rank sixth on the team scoring charts...Added 4-6--10 in 13 play-off games (ranked fourth on team), helping Waterloo to a runner-up finish in the 2011-12 Clark Cup finals...Played midget hockey for St. Louis Jr. Blues AAA.
