Omaha, Neb. --- The Minnesota State men’s swimming and diving team opened the 2010 Midwest Conference Championships with a strong showing.
The Mavericks sit in second-place with 45 points after the opening day, trailing St. Cloud State, who scored 56 points in the opening day.
The event opened on the three-meter dive where sophomores Tyler Jaeger and Dan Felt finished third-and fourth respectively. Jaeger scored 280.30 points in the event while Felt recorded 276.20.
Junior John Powers led MSU in the pool with a fifth-place finish in the 1,000-yard freestyle with a time of 10:17.16, good for fifth-place. Senior Jose Roasales finished seventh in 10:37.64, while freshman Sam Heidlek touched in 10:37.71, which was good for eighth.
The four-day, three-team runs through Saturday.
