Competed for MSU track & field from 1968 through 1971, in the high jump and javelin events...Was a two-time NCAA College Division All-American in the high jump, finishing 6th in 1969 and 4th in 1971...He also  finished 7th in 1970...In 1971, he was the first MSU high jumper to clear 7-0 (and the first Minnesotan), finished fourth in the Drake Relays, was ranked 13th in the U.S. overall, and qualified for the 1972 U.S. track & field Olympic Trials.  He was a long-time MSU school record holder in three events, outdoor high jump (1970, 1971-1987), and javelin (1969-1979)...Won North Central Conference javelin title at 1970 league outdoor meet...MSU captured NCC team title that year and he is only MSU student-athlete ever to win a NCC javelin crown.
